Over the Toilet Rack or Wall Cabinet: Floor space can be limited in a small bathroom, so it might be better to try and take advantage of wall space for storage. Over the toilet storage racks and wall cabinets can be cheap investments that allow for storing extra bathroom essentials. They utilize otherwise wasted space and come in various sizes and styles to fit your preference and needs. You can store items like tissues, extra rolls of toilet paper, extra soap or hand lotion. Over the toilet racks and wall cabinets can be found almost anywhere, including Target, Home Depot and Amazon.

“Emergency” Kit: It’s a good idea to be prepared for anything your guest might need, so consider putting together a small “emergency” kit to keep on the bathroom counter when guests are coming over. You might have heard of people doing this for weddings and it’s a great idea that can be adapted for your home. Keep items like feminine products, lotions, hand sanitizers, band-aids, tums, mouth wash, lint rollers and stain remover sticks in the basket for guest use. You can find a whole list of possible items to make your own bathroom “emergency” kit here.

Stackable Bins: Bathrooms aren’t necessarily known to have a good amount of storage space so you have to find ways to utilize what is available. Stackable bins are a great storage and organizational tool to overcome this lack of space. Place the bins in the cabinet under the sink and label each one based on its contents such as first aid, indigestion/pain medications, extra soap, extra towels and feminine products. Labeling them allows your guests to quickly and comfortably find what they need. Stackable bins are sold in various sizes and colors at places like The Container Store, Amazon and Walmart.

Accent Wall: A newer, popular trend for bathrooms is to create an accent wall with either tile or shiplap. This gives the bathroom a more modern, up-to-date feel that can coincide with the rest of your home. After all, you want your guests to be comfortable no matter where they are and outdated bathrooms could give them an uneasy vibe. Check out more ideas for accent walls on Pinterest before heading out to the store.

Themed Décor: Have a little fun with the decorations you choose for your bathroom. There are tons of fun ways to utilize bathroom themed décor. Line the top of the wall with outhouse wallpaper border like this one from Home Depot. You can also hang cute prints on the wall like any of these toilet paper patent prints on Amazon or this humorous duo. Head over to Pinterest for more ideas on cute bathroom décor to fit your style and taste.

Come back next week and we’ll explore renovation and storage ideas for your basement. See you then!
