Don’t wait until last minute to get your home ready to sell, if you tackle projects now, your home will standout to buyers by the time spring rolls around.
Start by taking a look inside and outside your home from a buyer’s perspective. What would stop you from making an offer? Does your home have curb appeal? What has to be updated?
1. Get a Home Inspection
It is suggested to have a home inspection done before you start selling, that way you can avoid any unpleasant surprises while your house it already on the market. When you have an inspection done prior to selling, you can make sure any repairs required are completed over the winter months. For example: A potential buyer won’t be able to try and get a lower price for your home because there is a damaged water heater.
2. Replace Flooring and Paint Walls
If your carpets are in desperate need of being cleaned, perhaps contact a professional cleaner. If your carpets are ‘at the point of no return’, consider hardwood or another material that might be more appealing to potential buyers.
Inspect all rooms for dirty or scuffed walls. Make sure you paint the whole wall, don’t just touch up the scuffed area because it never looks as good. If you have bright/bold colored walls, now or over the next few months would be the perfect time to update to a more neutral color scheme. Stick to beiges, light grays and off-whites.
3. Clean up the Basement, attic and Garage
Utilize the cool fall weather to organize these hot spots for clutter. Get rid of the items you don’t use/ no longer need and categorize the rest.
Donate or recycle your unwanted items to create more space in your closets, basement, attic and garage.
